Thermal Cut-Off Kit

This kit contains a high-limit thermostat and a thermal cut-off fuse. In the Duet series, the cut-off acts as a secondary safety on the heater housing that permanently opens the circuit if temperatures exceed safe limits due to airflow blockages. Unlike the blower fuse, this specific component allows the motor to continue running while preventing the heating element from energizing.

Heating Element Assembly

The heating element consists of a nichrome wire coil that generates heat through electrical resistance. Over time, the coil undergoes thermal expansion and contraction cycles that lead to metal fatigue and eventual physical breakage. A break in the coil creates an open circuit, resulting in a total loss of heat regardless of the status of safety fuses.

Thermal Fuse

Located on the blower housing, this is a non-resettable safety device designed to fail if the exhaust temperature exceeds a specific threshold (typically 196°F). While its failure often prevents the motor from starting on many Duet models, it remains a primary failure point in the safety chain often triggered by lint accumulation in the internal ductwork.
