LED Backlight Strip Set

The most common failure mode for TCL TVs with sound but no picture is the burnout of one or more LEDs within the backlight array. Since these LEDs are typically wired in series, a single diode failure breaks the entire circuit, resulting in a total loss of screen illumination while the TV continues to process audio and video data.

Power Supply Board (LED Driver)

If the backlight strips are intact, the failure usually lies in the LED driver stage of the Power Supply Board. This component is responsible for stepping up voltage to power the backlight array; if the transformer or capacitors in this circuit fail, the LEDs will not receive power despite the rest of the TV functioning.

T-Con Board

While less likely when sound is working, a failed Timing Controller (T-Con) board can prevent the LCD panel from 'opening' pixels to let light through, or in some models, can signal the Main Board to disable the backlights if a panel short is detected.
