External Intercooler Assembly

The intercooler acts as a heat exchanger for the supercharged intake air. In saltwater environments, lack of flushing causes salt to crystallize within the core, creating a physical blockage that prevents pressurized air from reaching the engine. This specific OEM part is the primary failure point for the 1630 ACE engine's intake tract when 'clogged' is reported.

Intercooler O-Ring Kit

When replacing a clogged intercooler, the sealing rings must be replaced to prevent boost leaks or water ingestion. A 'clogged' intercooler often creates excessive backpressure that can compromise the integrity of the existing seals between the intercooler and the intake piping.

Zinc Anode

The intercooler's internal clogging is frequently accelerated by galvanic corrosion. If the sacrificial anode has been consumed, the aluminum core of the intercooler becomes the anode, leading to rapid oxide buildup and eventual blockage of the cooling passages.
