The USB-C port is subject to high mechanical stress, leading to micro-fractures in the solder joints or bent internal pins. This disrupts the electrical continuity required for the 5V VBUS rail to reach the charging IC. Research indicates that using a port with incorrect D+/D- pinouts can also cause charging failure even after a clean physical replacement.

After approximately 300-500 charge cycles, the internal lithium-ion chemistry can degrade, or the Battery Management System (BMS) protection circuit may trip due to deep discharge. When the battery can no longer hold a minimum threshold voltage, the controller will fail to initiate the charging sequence, often indicated by a blinking orange light or no light at all.

The DualSense controller is sensitive to cable quality and requires both power and data pins to be functional for certain handshaking protocols with the PS5 console. Internal conductor breakage at the strain relief points or high-resistance pins in third-party cables often prevent the controller from drawing the required amperage to charge the internal cell.
