Compressor Start Relay and Overload Kit

On Kenmore 106 (Whirlpool-built) models, the PTC start relay contains a ceramic disc that frequently shatters or degrades over time. When this fails, the compressor cannot engage its start windings and will fail to run, often accompanied by a clicking sound every few minutes as the overload protector trips. This kit replaces the entire start device assembly to restore compressor operation.

Defrost Thermostat (Bimetal)

If the freezer is still cooling but the refrigerator section is warm, the defrost thermostat has likely failed to close during the defrost cycle. This causes ice to build up on the evaporator coils, eventually choking off the airflow to the refrigerator compartment. Replacing this sensor ensures the heater properly melts frost accumulation.

Adaptive Defrost Control (ADC) Board

The ADC board controls the timing of the cooling and defrost cycles. If the board's logic fails or a relay on the board sticks, the refrigerator may become 'stuck' in the defrost mode (where only the lights work but fans and compressor stay off) or fail to initiate defrosting entirely, leading to total cooling loss.
