The most common cause of Error 8 is swollen or unlubricated silicone piston seals. Over time, coffee oils and heat cause these gaskets to expand, increasing mechanical resistance beyond the motor's torque threshold. Replacing these seals and applying food-grade lubricant restores the smooth movement required for the brew group to reach its initialization points.

Brew Group Encoder

The encoder tracks the revolutions of the gear motor to signal the brew group's position to the logic board. The plastic clips that secure the encoder to the motor are prone to fatigue and vibration-induced cracking; if the encoder becomes loose or the internal sensor fails, the CPU loses its position reference and defaults to an Error 8 safety state.

Brew Group Drive Motor

If the brew group is cleaned and the encoder is functional but the error persists, the DC gear motor itself may be failing. Internal carbon brush wear or a degradation of the internal gear teeth can lead to insufficient torque output, preventing the motor from overcoming the compression force required during the brewing cycle.
