Drive Cable (Select Drive)

The inner braided steel wire undergoes mechanical creep over time, while the outer conduit can suffer from compression failure. When these occur, the cable length exceeds the adjustment range of the handle-mounted barrel, resulting in a 'loose' feel and failure to engage the transmission. Replacing the cable restores the precise geometry required for the tensioner arm to reach the friction-point of the drive belt.

Transmission Tension Spring

This spring provides the necessary return force to keep the cable under constant tension when the drive lever is released. If the spring is fatigued, rusted, or disconnected from the transmission bracket, the cable will appear slack regardless of the cable's physical condition or adjustment settings.

Drive Belt

While the user perceives a loose cable, the root cause may be a worn V-belt that has thinned significantly. A thinner belt sits lower in the pulley grooves, requiring the transmission to pivot further than designed to achieve engagement; this increased travel requirement consumes the cable's available slack, manifesting as a lack of tension at the control handle.
