Dual Run Capacitor

The run capacitor provides the necessary phase shift for the compressor's auxiliary winding. When it drifts out of tolerance, the motor operates inefficiently, leading to a significant increase in winding temperature and amperage draw. This heat eventually causes the bi-metal thermal overload switch to expand and break the electrical circuit to protect the motor from catastrophic insulation failure.

Compressor Hard Start Kit

As compressors age or operate under high head pressure (common in YCD models during summer peaks), they may struggle to overcome mechanical inertia at startup. This stall condition creates 'Locked Rotor Amps,' which generates instantaneous heat in the windings. A hard start kit provides the necessary torque boost to reach operating speed quickly, preventing the thermal overload from tripping during the start cycle.

Definite Purpose Contactor

Arcing and pitting on the contactor points create high resistance in the high-voltage path to the compressor. This resistance causes a voltage drop, which forces the compressor to draw more current (Amps) to satisfy the load requirements. The resulting increase in heat within the compressor housing triggers the thermal overload as a protective measure against winding burnout.
