Shift Actuator
The shift actuator contains the optical speed sensor and the motor that transitions the transmission between agitation and spin modes. If the internal tachometer fails to send a pulse signal to the control board during the sensing phase, the logic loop remains stuck as it cannot verify motor movement. This component is the primary failure point for nearly all sensing-phase hang-ups on the VMW platform.

Washing Machine Drive Belt
The sensing phase relies on the physical rotation of the wash plate or basket; if the drive belt has snapped or stretched to the point of slipping, the motor will spin without moving the drive pulley. Because the optical sensor is located on the actuator looking at the drive pulley rotation, a lack of physical coupling prevents the control board from receiving the necessary RPM feedback.

Lid Lock Assembly
While the lid lock usually prevents a cycle from starting, a logic fault within the internal solenoid or the strike plate alignment can cause the machine to pause during the transition from sensing to filling. If the control board cannot confirm the lid is securely locked for high-speed sensing pulses, it will frequently halt the progress of the timer indefinitely.
