Water Inlet Valve
This valve utilizes an electromechanical solenoid to gate water flow to the ice maker. Over time, the solenoid coil can fail electrically (open circuit), or the internal rubber diaphragm can become brittle or clogged with sediment, preventing it from unseating when the ice maker requests a fill cycle.

Ice Maker Assembly
The ice maker controls the fill timing via an internal cam-operated microswitch. If the switch contacts are pitted or the motor fails to reach the 'fill' position in its rotation, the 120VAC signal will never be transmitted to the water valve, resulting in an empty mold.

Water Filter
The water inlet valve requires a minimum of 20 PSI to function correctly. A saturated carbon block or air-bound filter can cause a significant pressure drop; while the dispenser may still function at a lower flow rate, the pressure may be insufficient to overcome the spring tension of the ice maker solenoid's pilot valve.
