Dryer Heating Element

The heating element consists of a nichrome wire coil that generates heat through resistance. Over time, the wire becomes brittle from thermal expansion and contraction cycles, eventually breaking and creating an open circuit that prevents heat production despite the dryer motor running.

Thermal Cut-Off Kit

This kit includes both the high-limit thermostat and the thermal cut-off fuse located on the heater housing. If airflow is restricted by lint, the temperature rises beyond safety limits, causing these components to open the circuit to the heater to prevent a fire.

Dryer Timer

The timer contains mechanical cam-operated contacts that route power to the heating element. As highlighted in the research, these internal contacts can carbonize or burn out, or the wire harness connectors can loosen, resulting in a loss of the L2 voltage leg to the heater while the motor circuit remains functional.
