Dishwasher Console (User Interface) Assembly

This model utilizes a capacitive touch interface that is highly susceptible to steam-induced moisture intrusion. When moisture penetrates the console, it creates high-resistance shorts across the button traces, leading to phantom button presses and flashing LEDs. Replacing the full console assembly is the only reliable fix as the UI boards are not individually serviceable.

Float Switch

Whirlpool's own documentation links 'flashing lights' to the E4 error code, which indicates the drip tray is full or the float switch is stuck in the 'up' position. If the switch fails electrically (open circuit), the control board interprets this as a flood condition and disables the unit, causing the lights to flash as a warning.

Electronic Control Board

If the UI and Float Switch are functional, the main control board's relay or logic chip has likely failed to process the cycle state correctly. This often happens after a power surge, where the board becomes stuck in a diagnostic loop or 'drain-only' mode, signified by continuous flashing.
