Motor Start Capacitor
The start capacitor provides the necessary electrical phase shift to create starting torque in a single-phase induction motor. When it fails due to dielectric breakdown, the motor receives power but cannot initiate rotation, resulting in a 60Hz audible hum. This is the primary non-mechanical failure mode for motors that are getting power but failing to turn.

Pump Shaft Seal Kit
Waterway Executive pumps often suffer from seal failure where the carbon/ceramic faces allow water to travel down the motor shaft. This moisture causes the front motor bearing to rust and seize. A seized bearing provides enough mechanical resistance to prevent the motor from spinning, resulting in a hum as the motor stalls under load.

Pump Impeller
Debris such as hair, small stones, or plastic fragments can bypass the strainer basket and become wedged between the impeller vanes and the pump volute. This mechanical interference locks the drive shaft. Because the Executive 56 is a high-horsepower pump, even small obstructions can create enough friction to stall the motor at startup, causing the humming sound.
