Smart Cartridge Assembly
The Smart Cartridge serves as the bike's central processing unit and contains the primary MCU (STM32 series) that handles the hardware-encrypted handshake with the motor. A failure in the logic board or corruption of the 'Mainware' firmware prevents the bike from initializing the dual-motor drive system, resulting in a total loss of power assistance. This is the most common failure point for VanMoof's integrated electronic systems.

Dual-Motor Controller (ESCU)
The motor controller (Electronic Speed Control Unit) contains the MOSFETs responsible for converting DC battery power into 3-phase AC power for the hub motors. In the high-output Vanmoof V, these components are subjected to significant thermal-mechanical stress during dual-motor synchronization. A single blown gate driver or MOSFET latch-up will disrupt the integration protocol, causing the system to throw communication errors.

Main System Wiring Loom
The Vanmoof V utilizes a complex internal wiring harness to connect the central battery and Smart Cartridge to the front and rear hub motors. Physical stress at the pivot points or ingress of moisture into the proprietary connectors can cause intermittent impedance changes on the I2C or CAN bus lines. This signal degradation prevents the real-time data exchange required for motor integration and torque sensor feedback.
