Electronic E-Shifter Assembly
The E-shifter contains a motor and a dedicated PCB that communicates with the central computer. Error 44 is triggered when this communication link is broken, typically due to moisture-induced corrosion on the shifter's internal circuit board or a failure of the internal motor controller. Replacing the entire assembly restores the communication handshake and physical gear actuation.

Sturmey Archer Hub Actuator Ring
This mechanical ring is the interface between the e-shifter and the internal hub gears. If the ring becomes stuck due to accumulated debris or lack of lubrication, the e-shifter motor will stall or fail to reach its indexed position, causing the system to throw a communication/timeout error (Error 44).

Internal Wiring Harness (Smart Socket)
The Smart Socket is the internal cable loom that connects the main tube electronics to the rear dropout components. Mechanical stress on the frame or internal moisture can degrade the connectors or the wire path, preventing the data signals from reaching the shifter, resulting in a persistent Error 44.
