Traction Cable
The traction cable on Personal Pace models is a high-wear component that undergoes constant tensile stress. As the internal wire stretches over time, the sliding handle no longer pulls the transmission engagement lever sufficiently to tension the drive belt. Replacing the cable restores the original mechanical advantage and removes the 'slack' that cannot be corrected by the adjustment knob.

Drive Belt
If the cable is properly adjusted but the mower lacks drive power, the V-belt has likely glazed or thinned due to frictional heat and slippage. A worn belt loses its coefficient of friction against the transmission pulley, preventing the transfer of torque from the crankshaft to the drive wheels regardless of cable tension.

Transmission Assembly
When external cable adjustments fail to improve traction, the internal clutch mechanism or plastic gear teeth within the transmission housing may be stripped or worn. Since these units are typically sealed, a complete assembly replacement is required to restore the internal drive-coupling functionality.
