Oven Igniter (Hot Surface Igniter)

The igniter acts as a resistor that must reach a specific temperature and current draw to open the safety gas valve. Over time, the element's resistance increases due to heat-induced oxidation, preventing it from pulling enough current to actuate the valve. This results in an oven that either glows without lighting or fails to heat entirely.

Gas Safety Valve

If the igniter is drawing the correct amperage but the oven still fails to light, the internal bi-metal arm or diaphragm within the safety valve has likely suffered a mechanical seizure. This prevents the flow of gas to the burner tube despite receiving the thermal signal from the igniter.

Spark Ignition Module

For models utilizing spark-to-pilot or direct spark ignition rather than a glow-bar, a breakdown in the module's step-up transformer prevents the generation of the high-voltage arc necessary to bridge the gap at the electrode, resulting in no spark.
