The 4-MIX engine features an automatic decompression pin on the cam gear that relies on precise valve lash to function. When the exhaust valve clearance becomes too large, the pin cannot lift the valve during the compression stroke, causing extremely high resistance at the starter cord. To access the rocker arms for adjustment, the valve cover must be removed.
