The SRAM Force AXS utilizes an Orbit fluid damper which is a sealed silicone-based system designed to provide hydraulic resistance against chain momentum. A failure in the 'clutch' manifests when internal seals bypass or the fluid leaks, resulting in a free-swinging cage that cannot tension the chain over rough terrain. Since this hydraulic unit is permanently housed within the derailleur's knuckle and is not a serviceable sub-component, the entire derailleur assembly must be replaced to restore chain management.
