The computer vision algorithm requires a specific contrast ratio and geometric integrity of the 'domino' patterns to calculate the tool's spatial coordinates. Physical abrasion of the tape, sawdust covering the black-and-white markers, or improper tape density within the camera's field of view prevents the software from establishing a high-confidence pose estimation.

Camera Aperture Window

Woodworking environments generate significant fine particulate matter (MDF dust, etc.) that can coat the exterior or migrate to the interior of the camera's protective window. This creates optical 'haze' or light scattering, which reduces the edge-detection capabilities of the CMOS sensor, leading to a loss of tracking when the tool moves quickly.

CMOS Camera Module Assembly

The Gen 2 camera module is connected via a flexible printed circuit (FPC) that is subjected to constant high-frequency vibrations from the integrated router motor. Over time, these vibrations can cause intermittent signal failure at the connector or micro-fractures in the sensor's solder joints, resulting in total loss of the video feed to the processing unit.
