Flange Shaft Assembly (Spider Arm)

The aluminum spider arm is susceptible to 'spider rot' or galvanic corrosion caused by detergent buildup and water exposure. When an arm cracks, the inner stainless steel drum loses its rigid centering, causing a severe rotational imbalance. At high spin speeds, this mechanical eccentricity creates violent oscillations that exceed the damping capacity of the suspension system, resulting in floor-shaking vibrations.

Washer Shock Absorbers (Set of 4)

These dampers utilize friction to dissipate the kinetic energy of the tub during the transition from low-speed tumble to high-speed spin. When the internal dampening material wears out, the tub is effectively 'undamped,' allowing it to oscillate at high amplitudes. This lack of resistance means every minor load imbalance is transmitted directly through the chassis to the floor.

Suspension Spring

The suspension springs support the static weight of the tub assembly and provide the initial tension for the damping system. If a spring has stretched or the plastic sleeve at the mounting point has worn through, the tub will hang at an uneven pitch. This tilt shifts the center of gravity of the rotating mass, causing the tub to 'wobble' rather than spin on a true horizontal axis.
