Oven Control Touchpad / Membrane Switch
The membrane switch utilizes two flexible layers with conductive silver or carbon traces separated by a spacer. Thermal degradation of the adhesive allows these layers to touch or traps moisture between them, creating a 'shorted' condition. Replacing this component restores the physical air gap and electrical insulation between the switch contacts.

In rare instances, the logic gate or pull-up resistor on the microprocessor input pins can fail internally. This leads the board to misinterpret a floating signal as a grounded (shorted) key even if the keypad is functional.
