Refrigerator Evaporator Fan Motor

The 22E error specifically denotes a failure in the refrigerator compartment evaporator fan's feedback loop. This occurs when the motor's internal hall effect sensor fails or when the motor windings seize, preventing the fan from reaching the required RPMs. Replacing the motor restores the cooling airflow and clears the communication error with the main control board.

Evaporator Cover Assembly

On many Samsung units, ice buildup behind the rear panel is the root cause of fan failure. This assembly includes the fan motor already mounted within the plastic housing and insulation. Replacing the entire assembly is often more effective than the motor alone as it ensures the foam insulation (which may be waterlogged or moldy) and the fan shroud are clean and properly aligned.

If the fan motor and wiring harness test fine for continuity and voltage, the logic circuit on the main PCB responsible for interpreting the fan's tachometer signal may be damaged. This is a secondary cause and should only be considered if the new fan motor fails to clear the 22E error.
