Headlight Push Button Switch
The headlight switch is highly susceptible to moisture ingress from melting snow and 'blow-back' during operation. Moisture creates a conductive path across the internal switch terminals, effectively bypassing the mechanical open state and keeping the LED circuit energized. Replacing the switch restores the mechanical break in the electrical path.

Main Control Board Assembly
The LED headlights are governed by a MOSFET (semiconductor) on the main controller board. If a voltage spike occurs or if moisture reaches the board logic, the MOSFET can fail in a 'shorted' state, which permanently bridges the power supply to the headlights. Since these components are typically potted or surface-mounted, the entire board must be replaced to resolve the logic failure.

Upper Handle Wiring Harness
In many Ryobi 40V models, the headlight switch is integrated directly into the upper handle wiring harness. Corrosion within the harness connectors or a wire-to-wire short caused by vibration-induced insulation abrasion can provide a constant 40V path to the LED drivers, bypassing the control logic entirely.
