Ryobi 40V 4.0 Ah Lithium-Ion Battery

The Ryobi 40V BMS has a known failure mode where parasitic drain pulls cell voltage below the operating floor during periods of inactivity. This triggers a permanent firmware lockout in the BMS to prevent the charging of over-discharged cells, resulting in a battery that shows no output and won't accept a charge. Replacing the pack restores the power circuit to the tool motor.

40V Lithium-Ion Charger

In some cases, the charger fails to communicate with the battery's T1/T2 terminals, failing to 'wake up' a battery that has entered a deep sleep mode. If a known-good battery also fails to charge, the charging base is the secondary failure point.

Blower Trigger Switch Assembly

If the battery is confirmed healthy (showing 4 bars on the fuel gauge), the most likely mechanical failure is the contact point or microswitch in the trigger assembly, which completes the circuit to the brushless motor controller.
