Pilot Assembly (Thermopile/Orifice)
The thermopile generates millivoltage via the Seebeck effect to keep the gas valve solenoid open. Over time, soot buildup on the pilot orifice or oxidation on the thermopile sensor prevents the pilot from being 'bathed' in flame correctly, dropping voltage and causing the gas valve to shut down for safety.

Gas Control Valve (Thermostat)
Professional feedback indicates that the Honeywell-style control valves on these units have a high failure rate in the internal magnetic operator or the ECO (Energy Cut Off) circuit. If the pilot assembly is clean but voltage still fails to hold the valve open, the internal solenoid or circuit board is defective and requires full assembly replacement.

Thermal Switch (TCO) Reset Kit
This water heater uses an FVIR (Flammable Vapor Ignition Resistant) system. If the air intake at the bottom of the heater is clogged with dust or lint, combustion temperatures rise, tripping the thermal cut-off switch and interrupting the thermocouple circuit to extinguish the pilot.
