The external antenna is the primary point of mechanical failure; the pivot joint can snap, or internal wire continuity can be lost due to thermal expansion/contraction or physical impact. Replacing it with a high-gain 6dBi-8dBi antenna increases signal reception and overcomes the inherent impedance issues found in the factory component.

U.FL to RP-SMA Pigtail Cable

This internal cable connects the WiFi module on the controller to the external antenna port. If the antenna is hit or overtightened, the bulkhead connector can spin, twisting and snapping the thin coaxial cable or popping the U.FL connector off the circuit board, resulting in a total loss of signal transmission.

In cases where the 'broken' symptom is internal to the electronics (e.g., the WiFi chip has failed due to heat exposure or a power surge), the entire control board must be replaced. This is the only resolution if the U.FL surface-mount port has been sheared off the PCB, as it is not a field-serviceable component.
