Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery Pack
The battery swelling is caused by electrolyte decomposition resulting in gas buildup (outgassing) within the cell pouches. This is a progressive failure mode often accelerated by the high thermal output of the CPU/GPU in a compact chassis. Replacing the battery pack is the only way to remove the pressurized hazard and restore the mechanical clearance required for the trackpad and bottom casing.
