Starter Solenoid Relay
The solenoid is an electromechanical switch that bridges high current from the battery to the starter motor. Over time, moisture ingress and thermal cycling cause oxidation or 'pitting' on the internal copper contacts. When this occurs, the solenoid will click as the coil engages the plunger, but the physical connection lacks the conductivity required to pass the high amperage needed to turn the starter motor.

AGM High-Output Battery
Snowmobile batteries frequently suffer from 'surface charge' where they show 12V+ on a meter but lack the Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) to handle a load. When the key is turned, the battery has enough energy to throw the solenoid (the click) but immediately drops voltage below the threshold required to rotate the starter under the mechanical resistance of the engine's compression.

Battery Terminal Hardware Kit
The Polaris Switchback chassis is subject to significant vibration which frequently causes the positive and negative battery terminal bolts to loosen. A loose connection creates massive electrical resistance; while enough current can pass to activate the low-draw solenoid coil, the high-draw starter motor circuit is effectively choked, resulting in a clicking symptom followed by a total voltage drop.
