Transmission Shifter Detent Pawl

This internal component features a roller on a staked pin that follows the gear selector star. If the pin loosens or the roller fails, the shifter arm loses its mechanical advantage and binds against the gear teeth, making it extremely difficult to move the shift lever even when the engine is off.

Primary Clutch One-Way/Two-Way Bearing

The center bearing in the primary clutch allows the belt to remain stationary while the engine idles. If this bearing seizes or drags, it maintains constant tension on the drive belt, which in turn applies torque to the transmission gears, 'locking' them in place and making gear transitions nearly impossible while the engine is running.

Shift Cable Assembly

The mechanical push-pull cable is susceptible to internal corrosion or thermal damage from its proximity to the exhaust. When the inner lining frays or the lubricant dries out, the resulting friction creates significant resistance that the user perceives as a hard-to-shift transmission.
