Digital Control Box

The digital control box contains the solenoid valves that electronically manage water flow and mixing. In a 'Low Flow Hot' scenario, the hot-side solenoid or the internal thermostatic mixing chamber has likely become restricted by mineral scale or a mechanical failure of the plunger. Because these units are water-by-wire, a restriction within the internal manifold necessitates a replacement of the entire control module.

Replacement Filter Screens

The inlet hoses of the U by Moen system contain fine mesh screens to protect the digital valves from debris. Calcium and sediment from the hot water heater often accumulate on the hot-side screen first, causing a significant pressure drop only when hot water is requested. Replacing or thoroughly cleaning these specific screens restores the pressure-volume balance required by the digital controller.

Duralast Cartridge

On Moen smart models with a manual handle override, a 1255 Duralast cartridge is used to regulate flow. If the handle mechanism's internal seals for the hot water port are swollen or obstructed, it will result in low hot water flow even if the digital sensors are functioning. This is the primary mechanical failure point for temperature-specific flow issues in the handle assembly.
