Surface Pro Signature Keyboard
The internal flexible printed circuit (FPC) within the keyboard's magnetic hinge is subjected to constant mechanical stress during folding. Over time, this leads to microscopic fractures in the copper signal traces (ribbon cable fatigue), which disrupts the 5V power and data handshake between the tablet and the keyboard controller. Because the assembly is sealed and glued, individual trace repair is impossible.

Replacement Surface Pro Connector Rail
If a known-good keyboard fails to respond, the gold-plated pogo pins on the tablet's chassis may have lost spring tension or suffered from localized oxidation. This prevents the physical contact required for the low-voltage logic signal to reach the motherboard, rendering the magnetic attachment point 'dead' regardless of the peripheral attached.
