Failure occurs when the mechanical stress exceeds the shear strength of the plastic teeth, leading to tooth rounding or complete shearing. Once the teeth are compromised, the mechanism can no longer provide the necessary counter-torque to resist the headstrap's elastic tension, causing it to slip or fall loose.
