Dryer Timer Assembly
The timer contains a dedicated synchronous motor and a gear reduction set that physically rotates the cam stack to progress through cycles. If the timer motor's internal windings fail or the plastic teeth in the gear train shear, the dial will remain stationary regardless of the dryer's operational state. Replacing the full assembly is required as the internal motor and gear train are typically non-serviceable components housed within the timer casing.

Cycling Thermostat
In moisture-sensing or 'Auto Dry' modes, the timer motor only receives power when the cycling thermostat reaches its temperature limit and 'satisfied' status, diverting current away from the heater. If the thermostat fails to oscillate or close the contact to the timer motor circuit, the timer will never receive the electrical signal to advance the cam stack during these specific cycles.

Dryer Timer Resistor
This resistor is used in the sensor-dry circuit to drop voltage for the timer motor during specific phases of the drying cycle. If the resistor is open-circuited, the electrical path to the timer motor is broken during automatic cycles, causing the timer to stall while the dryer continues to tumble and heat indefinitely.
