Outdoor Main Power Control Board (PCB)

The outdoor PCB contains the primary communication transceiver and signal filtration components. In CH05 failure modes, environmental stress or power surges often degrade the optocouplers or capacitors in the communication circuit, preventing the outdoor unit from acknowledging the data string sent by the indoor head.

Indoor Main Control Board

If the outdoor board is operational, the indoor PCB is the secondary failure point. This board is responsible for initiating the 'handshake' signal; a failure in the logic gate or the communication terminal interface will trigger a CH05 code if the return signal is not received within the programmed timing window.

Mini-split systems are highly sensitive to electromagnetic interference (EMI). If non-shielded wire or wire with poor insulation integrity is used for the interconnect between units, signal noise corrupts the serial data stream, causing the microprocessor to enter a protective lockout state.
