This is a silicon carbide igniter that acts as a resistance heater. Over time, the material thins and resistance increases; it may still glow orange but fail to draw enough amperage to open the gas safety valve. Replacing the igniter restores the electrical circuit's ability to trigger gas flow.

Surface Burner Spark Igniter

If the symptom applies to the cooktop, the ceramic insulation on the electrode often cracks or becomes contaminated with grease. This causes the high-voltage spark to short-circuit to the range chassis rather than jumping to the burner head to ignite the gas.

Spark Ignition Module

The spark module is the central controller for the high-voltage pulses sent to the burners. If none of the surface burners are clicking or lighting, the internal capacitors or relays within this module have likely failed, preventing the generation of the ignition arc.
