Burner Control Knob Assembly

The internal plastic 'D-sleeve' that interfaces with the valve shaft is prone to fatigue failure. Repeated thermal cycling from the oven vent weakens the polymer, causing the sleeve to split under the torsional load of turning the burner on or off.

Gas Surface Burner Valve

If the actual metal shaft is sheared or the internal lubricant has desiccated (leading to high turning resistance), the resulting torque will repeatedly break even new knobs. This is the secondary cause if knobs continue to fail shortly after replacement.

Oven Door Gasket

A compromised door seal allows excessive heat to escape directly toward the control knobs. This accelerated thermal aging is often the root cause of the plastic embrittlement seen in the knob stems.
