Short Block Assembly
The structural failure of the aluminum casting is caused by the loss of clamping force from the crankcase fasteners. Once the fasteners vibrate loose, the reciprocating forces of the internal rotating assembly are no longer contained within a rigid structure, leading to stress fractures along the block's thin-wall sections. Replacing the short block is the only reliable mechanical resolution once the casting has spidered or cracked.
