Kohler Canister Flush Valve Seal

The silicone canister seal is the primary hydrostatic barrier between the tank and bowl. Over time, municipal water additives cause the seal to blister or warp, creating a microscopic gap that allows water to seep into the bowl. Replacing this specific gasket restores the watertight seal at the base of the canister and prevents the drop in water level that triggers the fill valve to cycle.

If the water level in the tank is set too high, it may reach the top of the overflow tube, causing a continuous or intermittent siphon effect. While the seal is more likely, a failing fill valve internal diaphragm may fail to shut off completely or may be misadjusted, leading to the same periodic refilling behavior associated with ghost flushing.

In cases where the center guide post or the canister housing itself has developed structural stress cracks or mineral buildup that prevents the canister from seating vertically, the entire assembly must be replaced. This ensures the canister drops perfectly flush against the valve seat, eliminating alignment-related leakage.
