Food Chopper Assembly

The food chopper assembly contains a stainless steel mesh screen that filters the recirculating wash water. When this screen becomes clogged with debris, it creates a significant restriction in the hydraulic circuit, reducing the total volume of water available to the wash pump. This pressure drop is most evident at the upper spray arm, which requires the highest pump pressure to function effectively against gravity.

Water Inlet Valve

KitchenAid dishwashers typically utilize a timed-fill mechanism rather than a pressure or float-level sensor to determine water volume. If the solenoid-operated valve is restricted by sediment or mineral scale, the total water volume in the sump will be insufficient. This causes the pump to ingest air (cavitation), resulting in a loss of discharge pressure that prevents water from reaching the upper spray arm manifold.

Upper Wash Arm Manifold Docking Station

This component acts as the interface between the stationary rear supply tube and the mobile upper rack spray tube. If the internal flapper or the rubber gasket within the docking station degrades or loses its elastic memory, a high-velocity bypass leak occurs at the connection point. This parasitic loss of fluid pressure prevents the upper wash arm from achieving the necessary RPMs for effective cleaning.
