Heating Element
The heating element is a resistive Calrod loop; if the internal filament breaks due to thermal fatigue or corrosion, the circuit becomes open. This prevents the water from reaching the target set-point required by the control logic, triggering the 7-blink lockout code. Replacing the element restores the circuit's ability to convert electrical energy into thermal energy.

High-Limit Thermostat
This bi-metal safety switch is wired in series with the heating element. If it fails in the 'open' position or trips prematurely due to localized overheating, it interrupts the power flow to the heater. The control board then fails to see the expected temperature delta, resulting in the heater circuit fault.

Thermistor (NTC Sensor)
The thermistor provides the variable resistance feedback that the control board uses to calculate water temperature. If the sensor is out of calibration or has an internal short/open, the board will perceive a static temperature regardless of actual heater output, causing the logic to assume the heater is non-functional.
