Compressor Start Relay and Overload
The PTC start relay uses a ceramic disc to provide a momentary power boost to the compressor start windings; these discs frequently crack or burn out over time due to heat. When this component fails, the compressor will fail to start, often making a clicking sound, resulting in a total loss of cooling in both the fridge and freezer. This is the most common electrical failure for Kenmore side-by-side units that have power but are not cooling.
