The RS-485 transceiver chip on the JEP-R circuit board is highly susceptible to electrostatic discharge (ESD) and voltage transients. When this chip fails, the controller can no longer process the differential signal from the pump drive, resulting in a 'No Communication' state. Replacing the entire controller module restores the logic gate and display interface.

RS-485 4-Pin Connector Plug

Galvanic corrosion frequently occurs on the green 4-pin terminal block due to the high-moisture environment of pool equipment pads. Corrosion increases resistance across the Data (+) and Data (-) pins, causing signal attenuation that prevents the pump and controller from syncing. Replacing the connector ensures a low-impedance connection for the serial data stream.

Jandy ePump Drive Assembly

The variable speed drive (VSD) mounted on the pump contains the master RS-485 interface. If a power surge enters the system via the high-voltage lines, it can bypass the filter and destroy the communication bus on the drive side. This assembly is the primary logic unit for the pump motor.
