This component contains the plastic screw bosses that frequently snap off due to the torque of the lid opening. When these anchors fail, the hinge loses its connection to the lid, causing the 'crunching' sound and panel separation reported by users. Hinge failure on the Pavilion 15 series is often exacerbated by the hinges themselves seizing or becoming too stiff over time. This increased resistance puts excessive lateral force on the plastic anchors. Replacing the hinges ensures smooth movement and prevents the new plastic cover from being immediately overstressed.

Palmrest Assembly (Top Cover)

In approximately 30% of cases, the hinge anchors fail on the base (keyboard) side rather than the lid side. If the bottom of the laptop is lifting when the lid is opened, the screw bosses inside the palmrest assembly have fractured, necessitating a full top-case replacement to secure the lower hinge mounts.
