The Recon 250 is factory-tuned for lean emissions, making it notoriously 'cold-blooded.' An Iridium plug provides a hotter, more concentrated spark than the standard copper plug, which significantly improves ignition reliability when the fuel-air mixture is poorly atomized in cold temperatures. This overcomes the lack of a fast-idle circuit by ensuring every combustion cycle fires even at low cranking RPMs.

Carburetor Slow Jet (#38)

The stock #35 pilot (slow) jet is often too restrictive for cold-weather starting. Replacing it with a slightly larger #38 jet increases the fuel volume available during the starting and idling phase, compensating for the increased air density in winter and allowing the engine to fire more readily without excessive cranking.

Carburetor Rebuild Kit

Hard starting is frequently caused by 'varnish' buildup in the tiny orifices of the pilot circuit and choke plunger. A kit allows for the replacement of the pilot screw O-ring and float needle, ensuring that the enrichment circuit is actually delivering the required fuel-heavy mixture to the combustion chamber.
