Shift Motor Assembly
The DC shift motor provides the primary torque required to rotate the shift drum past the spring-loaded detent. Over time, internal brush wear or armature contamination reduces output torque, causing the motor to stall mid-shift; the 'clack' is the mechanical result of the gear train unloading when the ECU terminates the shift command due to a timeout.

Shift Reduction Gear Starter Kit
These gears transmit power from the motor to the shift shaft. If the gears are stripped, misaligned, or the factory grease has been washed out by water ingress, the resulting friction or 'tooth-jumping' creates a sharp mechanical clacking sound as the motor attempts to force the gear selection.

Shift Position (Angle) Sensor
This sensor provides closed-loop feedback to the ECU regarding the drum's orientation. If the sensor has high internal resistance or a dead spot, the ECU may fail to shut off the shift motor at the precise indexing point, causing the motor to hammer against the mechanical limits of the shift star, producing a loud clack.
