A lean air-fuel mixture burns significantly slower than a stoichiometric mix; this delayed combustion remains active when the exhaust valve opens, igniting in the muffler. In many cases, fuel varnish in the internal jets restricts flow, causing this lean condition. Replacing the assembly ensures all internal galleries and the needle/seat interface are restored to factory flow specifications.

Valve Cover Gasket

Over time, the mechanical clearance (lash) between the rocker arm and valve stem decreases. If the exhaust valve lash is too tight, the valve may fail to seat fully during the compression stroke or stay open too long, allowing hot combustion gases to escape prematurely. This gasket is the necessary sellable component to facilitate the physical adjustment of the valve train to correct seating timing.

Spark Plug (NGK BPR6ES)

An intermittent or weak spark can lead to incomplete combustion cycles where unburnt hydrocarbons accumulate in the exhaust system. Subsequent successful ignition cycles then provide the heat source required to detonate that accumulated fuel within the muffler, resulting in an audible backfire. Replacing a fouled or cracked insulator plug restores the energy density required for a complete burn.
