Dual Run Capacitor (45/5 MFD 440V)

The capacitor provides the necessary phase-shifted current to the compressor's start winding to generate sufficient torque for startup. If the internal metalized film degrades or leaks dielectric fluid, the compressor will fail to turn over against the refrigerant's head pressure, resulting in the system blowing uncooled air. This is the statistically highest failure point in Goodman condensing units due to seasonal heat exposure.

Definite Purpose Contactor (Single Pole, 30 Amp)

The contactor is the electromechanical relay that closes the 240V circuit to the compressor and fan motor upon a signal from the thermostat. Over time, the silver-cadmium contacts suffer from pitting and carbonization caused by electrical arcing during every start cycle. Significant pitting increases resistance or prevents electrical continuity, starving the outdoor unit of power while the indoor blower continues to run.

Condenser Fan Motor

The fan motor is responsible for the forced-convection heat transfer required to condense high-pressure refrigerant gas into a liquid. If the motor's bearings seize or the windings fail, the refrigerant cannot reject heat to the atmosphere. This leads to a rapid increase in discharge pressure, causing the compressor to reach its internal thermal limit and shut down as a safety precaution, stopping the cooling process.
