Condensate Drain Trap Kit
High-efficiency furnaces produce acidic condensate that carries trace particulates from the secondary heat exchanger. These solids settle in the internal P-trap, increasing the fluid's viscous drag and eventually creating a total blockage. When the trap is obstructed, the liquid head pressure within the collector box exceeds the cabinet's internal pressure, causing water to overflow into the furnace cabinet or back up into the inducer motor.

Furnace Collector Box
The collector box acts as the manifold for the secondary heat exchanger and is typically constructed of plastic. Frequent thermal expansion and contraction cycles can cause stress fractures in the plastic housing or degradation of the perimeter gasket. This mechanical failure allows liquid condensate to bypass the intended drainage path and leak directly onto the blower deck or out of the cabinet base.

Condensate Pressure Switch Tubing
Condensate can occasionally back up into the small-diameter vinyl tubing connected to the pressure switches. If the tubing becomes partially clogged with liquid (water-logging), it prevents the proper transmission of pneumatic signals, but can also lead to minor leakage if the tubing becomes brittle and cracks at the connection barbs due to prolonged exposure to acidic condensate.
