Gas Pressure Regulator
The pressure regulator is the primary component responsible for managing incoming gas pressure. A failure in the internal rubber diaphragm or a hairline crack in the aluminum casting (often near the NPT threads) can cause a slow, persistent leak regardless of whether the range is on or off. This part is the most common source of 'ambient' gas odors in the kitchen area.

Oven Safety Valve (Dual Solenoid)
If the smell is stronger inside the oven cavity, the safety valve is likely not closing completely. This valve uses electromagnetic solenoids to hold gas back; if debris or wear prevents the plunger from sealing, gas will seep through the bake or broil burners. Replacing the entire assembly is the only safe resolution for a leaking valve.

Oven Glow Bar Igniter
Often, a 'gas smell' occurs only during the start of a cooking cycle. If the igniter is 'weak' (drawing less than the required 3.2-3.6 amps), it will take too long to reach the temperature necessary to open the safety valve, or it will open the valve but fail to ignite the gas immediately. This leads to a build-up of unburnt gas that the user smells before the burner finally lights.
